How to choose the right LED lighting for a heavy-duty truck?
When deciding on lighting for your heavy-duty truck, you are likely prioritizing safety and functionality over style and aesthetics. Whether you are purchasing for one truck, or a fleet, safety, especially in the commercial sector, is an absolute priority. Ultimately, your bottom line is your primary concern after all. Furthermore, you have to follow the regulations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). There are several laws and regulations that they have established, and being aware of these requirements is essential. There are several options when it comes to outfitting your heavy-duty truck and trailer, and our lineup of heavy-duty LED’s are top of the line and affordable.
What qualifies as a Heavy Duty Truck?
Many large trucks are used for both commercial and personal use but only certain qualify as heavy-duty trucks. Class 7 and 8 trucks are classified as heavy-duty, or semi-tractors. Because of their immense size and power, not to mention deadlines and plenty of night driving, these heavy-duty vehicles need to be lit up and visible wherever they might find themselves, night and day. Because of this, we at Vivid Lumen Industries recommend our LED lights and bulbs for your heavy-duty needs. Not only are they far brighter than your average stock halogens, but they last longer and are resistant to water damage. Beyond just the tractor itself, having your trailer setup with powerful LEDs ensures it is far more visible on the road and gives other drivers plenty of notice when and where you are.
What are the different kinds of heavy-duty lighting?
Deciding on what lighting to install can seem daunting with all of the choices available. Most likely you are looking for light bars, warning lights and work lights. Fortunately, there are several options to choose from -
1. Super B Series -
The Super B Series is an advanced piece of equipment featuring 3 functions, powerful optics with the versatility of the fog light, driving light and warning light options. The Super B Series is an ultra compact bar with patented optic technology built to suit every driving condition.
2. Dynamic Series -
Our Dynamic Series of LED light bars and round driving lights also has proven effective and popular amongst semi-truck drivers. Dynamic Series light bars come in 6”, 14” and 20” allowing for high versatility and customization. Our 6” light bars, for example, are generally used in the front bumper, where round driving lights are placed on opposite sides of the hood.
3. Warning Lights -
If you are looking for a dedicated warning light, our warning light comes in white, blue and red with amber being reserved only for the Super-B light bar.
4. Work Lights -
Our work lights are made durable through an aluminum alloy housing, and boast electrostatic coating, thermostatic hardening, IP 67 waterproofing and are shock resistant with integral heat sink. These lights are great for service trucks, tractors, work trucks, excavators, forestry and mining. For work lights, we offer two series to cover whatever you need.
Our Amber Series LED work lights to feature a powerful amber beam offered in either round or square frames.
The Dual Color Series LED work lights are featured in a plethora of shapes and emit either white light or an amber strobe light. We find tractor-trailer drivers mount our work lights on the front for increased road visibility, the sides to help make the semi-truck more visible, and the back for lighting while hooking up trailers at night.
If powerful LED bulbs are what you are looking for, we offer highly tested and reliable LED bulbs designed for use in heavy-duty trucks. The velocity series is an absolute favourite amongst drivers. We also sell headlight replacements for Freightliner, Volvo, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Western Star heavy-duty rigs. If a reliable, durable and high quality, all for an affordable price tag is what you are looking for, we have the products you need.
Lighting Regulations
There are quite a few regulations one must follow while installing lights on a semi-truck. This can be as simple as the color of the light or how many lights are installed. More technical requirements include height and beam pattern. Running LEDs around your trailer is also a suggested install. To further educate yourself on what is and is not street legal, check out the regulation page for the FMCSA. This will guide you through the various specifications they have decided upon from type of light, number of lights, color of lights, the position of lights, and lights specific to your tractor or load.
We at Vivid Lumen Industries realize that functional, reliable high-quality equipment is an absolute must for semi-truck drivers, and lighting is no exception. Having visibility both for the operator to see through the dark, fog, or snow, and other drivers to see the heavy rig is essential. We strive to provide high-performance, extremely durable lights and bulbs for heavy-duty operators to ensure that lighting is one concern you are never worried about.
